I was out hiking with Jack Looney last week on the A.T. near Wintergreen, and ran into a hiker who knew the site of a military plane crash a few hundred yards off the trail. The crash took place in 1964, so it was pretty cool to see how relatively intact the plane is.

It was also cool to know both passengers on-board survived.

Thought Du Jour

I remember debating whether I should take this photo at Robbie and Regina’s wedding back in June. At the time, I thought the debris on the ground could be a bit distracting. I ended up taking it as is (obviously), and am glad I did.

I’m going through Robbie and Regina’s photos again, and was reminded shots like these are true documentary photography not only because this is a real moment between the couple minutes after being married, but it also documents the time — 2 days before, a Microburst hit Charlottesville and wreaked havoc not only on the trees along UVA’s Lawn, but also put quite a few kinks in the final days leading up to Robbie and Regina’s wedding that I’m sure they will always remember.

I shot a story for The Wall Street Journal recently that ran on C1 of today’s paper. It’s a really interesting story, and a sign of the times for many small towns across America. The small town of Buena Vista, VA put up its City Hall and police station as collateral for a bond offering to refinance a municipal golf course back in 2005. Now, facing severe financial difficulties, the city is unable to pay back its debt. Potential consequence? The bank taking over City Hall.

Hidden Red Eye

After a nice 12-hour red eye flight back from CA, I have arrived home in VA. Had some time in the Denver airport to kill, so had some fun on their train for a self-portrait of my traveling self the past three weeks. Also learned recently that these types of self-portraits I’ve been doing are thrilling, exciting, and spine tingling…who knew?

Big Sur
